katy perry part of me LA premiere

This past Tuesday I was invited to the premiere of Katy Perry's 3D concert movie, Part of Me. I grabbed two girlfriends and spent the day in Hollywood having a blast!
Before the movie, Katy shut down Hollywood Boulevard and performed a half hour concert of all of her top singles. I had never seen her live before and she was awesome.
Her music is just so much fun and you can tell she loves what she does!
rocking out to Katy Perry - note all the 6 year olds behind us :)
On our way into the theater after the concert I ran into the lovely miss Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae Jepsen herself! She is the cutest, littlest thing and I told her I went to a taping of Canadian Idol a looong time ago when she was on it and met her back then!
posing in front of the huge cut out inside the theater
They gave out the cutest 3D glasses. Red heart shaped ones! They suit Katy's quirky personality perfectly!
It was a long day, but a very fun one at that! Also, can I just say, I watched a movie at the same time, in the same theater, as JUSTIN BIEBER!!! ;)

what i wish i was wearing

If you've visited my blog in the past month, you may remember that I'm not buying any new clothes this month and I'm reevaluating my wardrobe to figure out what is working and what isn't. I've decided that I need to shop more consciously instead of going into stores and browsing mindlessly without a clear idea of what I want/need. There are so many items in my wardrobe that I hate or just "like"and not love, and I want to prevent that from happening in the future. Since I can't go actual shopping, I decided to go online window shopping and put together a wish list of pieces I wanted.

cream crochet shorts from Zara
How lovely are these shorts? Perfect for hot summer days and I love how they can easily be dressed up or down for day or night.

macrame and chiffon sweater from Zara
I think that this sweater would transition from summer to fall and winter nicely. It seems like it is an airy knit and it has some great detailing.
ByCORPUS jacket
byCorpus denim jacket from Urban Outfitters
I absolutely love this jacket! It is so edgy and cool. The only thing I'm worried about is how much wear I could get out of it since it is so trendy! But I really, really want it :)
dotted peter pan dress from Forever 21
I saw this dress in the latest issue of Lucky and thought is was adorable. They had it styled numerous ways that showed the versatility of the dress. I think it would be perfect for work paired with a cardigan or sweater over top of it. It could also easily transition to the Southern California fall with some knee high boots or tights.
leopard print belt from Old Navy
I have been wearing my blouses tucked into my black skinny cropped work pants the past few weeks in an attempt to look more polished and I have been wishing I had a fun belt that would fit my hips. All of my belts are too small because I usually belt my sweaters around my ribcage and waist. I saw this one in Old Navy this past weekend for $15 and I have a $10 off coupon for there. I may need to go buy it this week. Can't beat a stylish, cute belt for $5!
Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Karlie bag from Nordstrom
This bag is truly a "wish list" item. I have been admiring the Classic Q collection of handbags from Marc by Marc Jacobs for a while now. I like this one because it is classy, can be worn day or night, isn't too trendy where I couldn't wear it for more than one season and best of all, it is a relatively affordable option from that line.

keep your head up

Happy Saturday. Take a few moments today to stop and reflect on all of the beauty that is your life. These are some of my favorite phrases and sayings that can usually reframe my perspective and make me smile. It's good to have some on hand that you can look at when you feel like life is just throwing lemons your way.

Happy Friday! I didn't take that many pictures this week. I was either at work, at the gym or lying on my bed catching up on some quality trash tv! Next week I will take some photos of my elliptical machine ;)
I wore this tank & necklace (with black skinnies and cream cowboy boots) to the One Direction concert. I recently bought this tank from Express & I love it because the back is all black lace. I need to recruit someone to take photos for me for this blog so I don't have to do the mirror pics!
The kind of cookies the cool catz eat . Seriously addicting.
Inspiration board I am working on for my room. More on that soon!
High five for free gift cards from work! Yard House has a whole vegetarian menu. SCORE!
This movie was funny, but not that great. However, Andy Samberg was in it so that made it worthwhile ;)

Have an awesome weekend!

that's what makes you beautiful

I got my inner tween on this past week at the One Direction concert! I may have been the oldest one there with the exception of the moms, but I had a blast. If you are not familiar with them, they were on Simon Cowell's X Factor UK a few years ago and are the cutest little British things ever. They sing fun, upbeat songs that are perfect for summer.
their show was super cute and mimicked a school year, starting off with some summer lovin' and beach fun
it then segued into fall and winter
snow. in southern california. inside. PARTY!!
they had super cute video montages that ran in between each "season", like this cabin one
resident heartthrob - Harry Styles
Oh and did I mention they have a killer stylist? They all coordinate without being too matchy matchy and they are usually decked out in all the latest trends (colored turquoise skinny jeans anyone?) I seriously wish I could raid their closets and rock some of their menswear pieces, like their killer fitted blazers!

Last Friday Night

last Friday night
yeah we danced on tabletops
and we took too many shots
think we kissed but I forgot

last Friday night

yeah we maxed our credit cards
and got kicked out of the bar
so we hit the boulevard
last Friday night

Just kidding, last Friday night wasn't that wild, but I did have a pretty fun time. I saw one of my favorite bands, Parachute, in concert. outdoors. for free. nothing beats that!

If you are in the LA area, Citywalk at Universal Studios has free outdoor concerts every Friday all summer long. The line-up can be found here

If you are a fan of Parachute, high five. If you have never heard of them, you NEED to check them out.  I mean even Taylor Swift is a fan! They are an awesome band and crazy, talented musicians. This was my third time seeing them perform live and they never disappoint!
note to self: next time you see them, wear heels ;)

If you want to check them out, this is my favorite song from their latest album:

dear will,  you are sooo swoon worthy. see you next time. xx.

Young Hollywood Awards

This past Thursday I had the opportunity to attend the Young Hollywood Awards at the Hollywood Athletic Club in L.A.. Ashley Greene (one of my style icons! love her!!) hosted the show and she did a wonderful job. I was so hoping I would get to meet her, but no such luck. I had a wonderful time at the awards and met some great people. Cameras weren't allowed inside, but my iphone was clutch! So many celebrities who I love (uhmm hello british beauty Alex Pettyfer) were there including the always classy Gennifer Goodwin and my sister's favorite Sophia Bush. It was definitely a fun night out!

Red carpet pretties - can you tell vitamin water was a sponsor? haha

Posing in the room

Gorgeous centerpieces at the tables

such pretty program cards

Ran into one of my favorite people at the after-party, Alex Deleon from The Cab! Love him & his lyrics!!
And I met the one & only Dawson - James Van Der Beek

Words of Advice from Carson Kressley

The day after I posted about being overwhelmed by my closet I went to the Orangewood Scholarship Luncheon in Orange County where Carson Kressley was the keynote speaker. If you aren't familiar with Carson, he is a fashion & style guru and was on the show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. He was hilarious and spot on and his speech was so funny. I could not stop laughing!

He talked about putting the best "you" forward everyday and gave his top ten pieces of advice for women.  I really wish it would have been appropriate to whip a notebook out at the table and take notes on his speech. It was THAT good.

Anyways, as soon as he started talking about clothing I started laughing because this was exactly what I needed to hear. He said that women so often keep clothing in their closets that does not fit anymore, that they dislike, that never fit properly, that's not really their style, that's worn out, etc. because they either feel guilty getting rid of it or are saving it "just in case." Yet, these are the items you need to get rid of - the clothing pieces that that you no longer like, don't make you happy, and don't make you feel good in them.

The point he made that really drove home the message for me was this: Everyday when you wake-up, you start with a blank slate. After showering, you head to your closet and get dressed for the day. You have two choices. You can either be faced with clothes you love, that fit you well, make you happy and start your day off on a positive note. Or you can be faced with clothing that is too small, doesn't fit right, or isn't your style anymore and feel bad about yourself. Why start the day off negative?

Carson talked about how it is so much better to clear all the junk out of your closet that way you know every morning when you get dressed that you will be greeted with a closet full of pieces you love, that you look great in, and make you feel good to boot!

His speech really gave me a good perspective on my clothing problems. I went through my closet and got rid of another bag of clothing! I am at three total now. Funny thing is, my closet is still packed. I probably should get rid of three more bags, but baby steps people!!!

I am still doing good with my June challenge of not buying any new clothing. I want to see how long I can keep this up for. I want to really start wearing everything in my closet and get a good feel for staples I need and pieces I have too many of.  I have a few bright colored skirts on my wish list to wear to work for the rest of the summer, but I am at least waiting until June is over to start looking for the perfect one. This no new clothing challenge is making me really evaluate my style and I have been much more creative with getting dressed everyday. I have also been trying to "style" my outfits more. There are so many great personal style and fashion blogs on the internet and these ladies are my real life fashion inspiration. Them and Lucky Magazine :)

Carson and I before the event started! What do you wear to meet a fashion maven/stylist, yet is also appropriate for a ladies charity luncheon where you need to head back to work after? After staring at my closet for 20 minutes, I chose a cute grey summery strapless dress, that I paired with a coral cardigan and a cute coral sequined flower in my hair behind my ear.

Where oh where did this week go? I had every intention of blogging, but the days got away from me! I also went to 2 events this week right after work (posts coming soon) and didn't get home 'til late each night, so no time to write.

Anyways, here are some highlights & everyday adventures of my week ;)

Frozen banana softserve! All that is in this bad boy is bananas & a strawberry on top. So delicious & makes me feel like  I get to enjoy the best part of summer - ice cream on hot days!

I have a new favorite beach spot in Laguna! It is so relaxing to watch the surf roll in & see surfers catching some waves. I left wanting to learn to surf really bad!

New black flats from Ross! So cute and comfy and cheap! Love that.

I love fortune cookies! Excited to see what this week holds!

Pretty stationary. I love mailing letters & notes. I sent one to my friend's mom and one to my grandma :)

Rocking the side knot on one of my favorite t-shirts!! Sun Record Company is the label that launched Elvis Presley's career. I wore this shirt with a black maxi.

Does anyone use their iPhone to take photos of magazine articles they want to remember or check out later? I do it all the time! Thank goodness for the iphone.
