grosse ile, michigan photographer

I photographed Aleks in the beginning of January in Grosse Ile, MI. Grosse Ile is this awesome island in the Detroit River between Michigan's lower peninsula and Canada. Aleks good looks and great style translated well into some awesome portraits. Plus you can't beat the gorgeous scenery and backgrounds we shot against.

diy polaroid picture wall heart

I just love polaroids. There is something so iconic and pure about them. I love their colors and their imperfections. This was my favorite part of my room in California. I created this awesome heart motif on my wall out of polaroid pictures. It held a lot of wonderful memories and I loved looking at it everyday. As different pictures would catch my eye during the day, it would take me back to that time. It's also a great way to display a lot of photos at once.

It was super easy and inexpensive. All you need are 53 polaroids and a roll of tape. I put a piece of rolled up scotch tape in all four corners of each photo in order to securely adhere it on the wall. It is easiest if you start from the bottom with a single polaroid and work your way up the rows from the middle out. Just make sure you leave enough room for all the rows before you hit the ceiling and that your rows are straight! It surprisingly only took an hour to put up and took even less time to peel all of the tape off of the photos when I moved last month. It didn't damage the walls, the paint or the photos either, so it a is great way to decorate and get some artwork up on your walls if you are in a dorm room or are renting. I think it looks best if you mix polaroids of people with ones of objects and scenery to give it some variety.

I'm debating if I'm going to put it back up in my new room or try something different with some Instagram prints I recently printed. Decisions, decisions.

spring flowers

I'm so excited Spring is here! I couldn't wait any longer to break out the florals. I love the watercolor look of the flowers on this skirt. It makes me want to wear lots of pink and paint and run around barefoot. Unfortunately, I will have to wait a little bit longer for that last one since it is still pretty chilly here in the Midwest.

flannel and stripes forever

I love that there are no rules in fashion anymore. There's nothing more freeing than doing your own thing and not caring what other people think. That's why I love "Hollywood" style so much. Those women create their own look and run with it and then half of America is embracing it and rocking it. I felt like wearing my flannel and stripes together today and threw in some military toughness for good measure. I think it turned out cute. If it didn't don't tell me. Let me stay jaded. Sometimes it better that way!

luck of the irish

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Hope you enjoyed a day of Leprechauns, gold coins, rainbows & green beer. This non-Irish girl had Italian for dinner, but only because the Tilted Kilt had a 3 hour wait. At least I wore green. and gold. and I received this cute Shamrock card from my sister!

snow queen

Last weekend it was in the 60's. Today it snowed. This cold weather is killing me, but at least I am able to get some more wear out of this cute cream winter coat. I found this beauty in a thrift store in Orange County, CA this past summer for less than $10. It fit like it was tailored to my body and was in amazing shape. You never know what amazing finds you will score in a thrift store! And now I have that annoying Macklemore song, Thrift Stop, stuck in my head! Oy vey!

vintage prince concert tees

shirt - vintage Prince | leggings - Zara (last season) | booties - MTNG from LF Stores | Chevron necklace & bracelets - Forever 21 | gold ring - H&M

Music makes me happy. So does vintage concert tees and my growing collection of them. I found this 1988 Prince lovesexy tee from when he toured that album a few years ago on eBay. I had been wanting it for a while and it took me a few months to even find one. It wasn't my size, but I scooped it up anyways. I guess it's a good thing that oversized shirts are so in right now.

I wore this tee to a concert yesterday to see one of my favorite bands, The Summer Set. Fabulous show. Fabulous musicians. Fabulous band. If you haven't heard of them, check them out! They played a new song of their upcoming album, Boomerang, and it has been on repeat on my iTunes all morning.

chicago is magical

I've been putting the term 'wanderlust' to good use lately, but hey, that's what life's all about! After spending last weekend in Toronto, I made another last minute decision on Thursday night to book a flight to Chicago to meet  up with one of my good friends from California for a weekend of fun in the windy city. I flew out after work Friday night and we crammed as much adventure as we could into 48 hours!!
The Chicago Theater marquee greeted me after stepping off the L from Midway.
As soon as I got in on Friday, we headed out to check out some bars. The second place we went, Double A, had these delicious martinis!
Saturday morning, I woke up to this view of Navy Pier and Lake Michigan from our room at Swissotel Chicago.
We walked from our hotel to Millenium Park in the frigid cold to check out the Bean!
The views of the city reflected in it were incredible.
The view from underneath it was pretty cool too!
From there, we headed over to The Art Institute of Chicago to check out their new Picasso exhibit.
It was awesome being able to view that large of a collection of his work at once. He was definitely an interesting person and that showed in his work and how he interpreted what he was painting. We wandered around the other exhibits and saw some other great pieces as well.
We headed to Little Goat for lunch after that. I had the biggest cup of chamomile tea to warm up from walking in the freezing cold.
Thought about ordering the "Fat Elvis Waffles", but I went for the veggie burger instead.
On Saturday night I saw The Book of Mormon!! It was fabulous! I wasn't sure what to expect other than it had rave reviews and is nearly impossible to get a ticket to, but it blew me away. It was hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing! After the play we ate at Bill & Giuliana Rancic's restaurant, RPM Italian, and it was delicious.
On Saturday, Navy Pier was the first stop.
The view of Lake Michigan covered in snow was beautiful.
The view of the skyline from the end of the pier was pretty awesome as well.
Next stop was TOPSHOP!! I was so excited since I missed the LA store opening by a week, but I was disappointed by how small the store was and the lack of selection in my size.
Found this gem in Magnolia Bakery. Pretty much spot on since I couldn't eat one of their delicious looking cupcakes because they were made with dairy.
Their tile floors were very pretty though.
Ceiling at one of the public library buildings in Chicago.
Pretty architecture!
Loved this mosaic on the wall.
Last shot of Chicago, on the plane going home.

Now, where to this weekend...
just kidding.

My bank account needs a break :)
